Trends In Interior Paint Colors

On the heels of New York City's Fashion Week, where every season touts a predominantly trending color, this week seems like the perfect time to explore the "hautest" trend in interior paint for your home. Ironically, this year the very same color that was splashed across the runway is also showing up in avant-garde home decorating magazines and the homes of the über-chic. We aren't of course, talking about exterior paint, or even the neutral tones that make up the majority of the interior wall space within your home. What we are referring to is big, bold statement color to be used in one room, and this year the color is…get ready… emerald green. The all-knowing color experts at Pantone have declared Emerald (number 17-5641 to be exact) the official hue of 2013.

While bold "statement colors" may not be for everyone, when you consider making a big change to your home interior, paint color is a less risky choice than most other options. When it comes to color, and particularly something as bold as emerald green, we would caution against buying furniture to match. As a matter of fact when you see how the experts are doing it, the design of the room remains elegant, if not understated.

Throughout the years there have been countless hits and misses. Who can forget the avocado green debacle of the '70's? However, when used prudently, statement color can add extraordinary flair to your home. Here are a few tips before taking the big leap into color:

* If this is your first experience with bold color, start off small; perhaps a powder bathroom.

* It shouldn't appear to be a random or arbitrary choice. Use a splash of the chosen color in an adjacent or adjoining room.

* If you make a bold color choice, commit to it entirely. You will surely want to change it at some point, but embrace it while it's in your home. You know, you only live once. YOLO is the official acronym for 2013. Speaking of trends…
